Construction Moving Along Briskly At New Galewood Crossings Community On Chicago’s West Side
Unique Red Seal Homes’ Neighborhood Getting Ready For First Deliveries At End Of Fall
Chicago, IL - (June 8, 2007) - Red Seal Homes’ dramatic transformation of the former rail yard at Galewood to create The Enclave at Galewood Crossings has continued practically unabated so far this season. The company has advanced on the infrastructure work, completed demolition and begun general clean up, street and grading work at what will soon become one of Chicago’s most unique and engaging new residential construction communities.
The Enclave at Galewood Crossings is located just south and east of the corner of Grand and Central Avenues on Chicago’s west side, at 1900 N. Central Avenue. Red Seal will build 187 homes on a 15-acre parcel of the former Galewood rail yards, consisting of 17 3,000 square foot single-family homes on oversized 30-foot wide lots and 40 smaller single-family homes priced from the low $400s; 54 2-flat condominiums priced from the mid $200s; 53 27-foot wide Crossings townhomes and 23 traditional three-story townhomes priced from the $299s. All pre-construction pricing is subject to change. The community is approximately 55-percent sold out.
“The changes that have occurred on-site at Galewood Crossings since last year have been dramatic, with the demolition of the old silos that were on the property now complete and the site being prepared for final grading. We have begun foundation and street work and will open models this fall, as well as making our first deliveries to residents in late fall,” said Brian Hoffman, vice chairman and CFO of Red Seal Development Corporation.
The work Red Seal has been doing at The Enclave at Galewood Crossings has already begun to transform the site of the historic Galewood rail yards that spans 50-acres in this now residential area. Red Seal’s homes are part of a mixed-use neighborhood that will also feature a 14-screen movie theater and a state-of-the-art Laborers’ Union Training Center. Red Seal is planning several model homes that will open next year.
The land plan for this community has been designed to create a one-of-a-kind neighborhood atmosphere for the residents. The layout includes amenities such as pocket parks, a dedicated dog park and a tot lot with playground equipment, all entirely within the community’s borders, to foster a sense of togetherness and camaraderie among neighbors.
This careful land plan creates a true residential neighborhood that is set back from the surrounding roads and buffered by landscaping and a fence to define its own private space. The homes have been designed with outdoor areas like patios and balconies to encourage outdoor activities by the homeowners.
“One of the most exciting aspects of Galewood Crossings is the wide variety of homes that we are building, that includes traditional single-family homes and an array of townhome and condominium plans that are traditional two or three-flat designs that have been modernized and brought into the 21st Century to meet the demands of today’s buyers,” Hoffman said. “About half of the single-family homes either front to the two-acre main park or are placed along the park’s sides. The park space creates an oasis of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Galewood Crossings is the ideal community for buyers who want a combination of suburban floor plans and a more suburban neighborhood feel with a location that’s within the City of Chicago and the vibrancy that only city living can bring.”
The largest of the single-family homes are placed on 30’ wide lots and are incredibly flexible designs that can feature up to six bedrooms and up to 3-1/2 baths with three levels of finished living space totaling over 3,000 square feet. Multi-generational living is easily accommodated with these homes, as are the needs of a growing family. Front porches allow for easy enjoyment of the park across the street, while private rear decks encourage family togetherness. Two-car detached garages are also included.
A second series of single-family homes is also available at Galewood Crossings. These plans are sized from 2,260 up to 2,300 square feet and can have up to five bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths across three levels of living area.
The single-family homes are pre-construction priced from $425,900 up to $545,900.
The location of Galewood Crossings places its residents just steps away from schools and neighborhood restaurants, as well as great shopping at the Bricktown and Brickyard Malls. A wide choice of recreational activities are available at nearby Riis Park, with Hansen and Galewood parks and the Columbus Park golf course also close to the community. Metra trains stop at the nearby Hanson Park and Cragin stations as part of the Milwaukee District West Line.
“As a builder with considerable experience in redeveloping sites like Galewood, the progress we’re making at Galewood Crossings is exceptional. By the time summer rolls around, buyers will see even more dramatic changes here, as the homes begin to be built and the outlines of the neighborhood will be easily seen. 2007 will be a landmark year for the entire Galewood community,” Hoffman said.
The Enclave at Galewood Crossings is located at Access Drive (1900 N. Central Avenue) in Chicago, between Grand Avenue and North Avenue. To visit, take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) to Central Avenue north, to the eastbound bridge exit (just north of North Avenue), east to the community. The sales center is located at 1901 N. Central Avenue and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (773) 237-8900 or visit www.redsealhomes.com.
